Dr Adrian Birkett

Dental Surgeon

BDS (Birm) MSc (Lond) MGDS RCS (Edin)

Dr Adrian Birkett moved to Australia in 2002, following a career in the Royal Air Force. During his time with the Air Force, he provided dental care to service personnel and their families in the UK and abroad. Dr Birkett was also involved in vocational training for new dental graduates.

Dr Birkett initially worked at The Public Dental Clinic in New Town, then he entered private practice working alongside Dr Jeff Mount at Hobart Dental for many years.

In 2016 Dr Birkett joined Bayfield Dental at our city practice in Victoria Street. He is proficient in all areas of dentistry but has a keen interest in crowns, bridges, surgical and complex restorative procedures including implants.

Dr Birkett’s recreational pursuits mainly revolve around his two young sons extending to being coach of their soccer team.

Dr David Peters

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Dr David Peters was born in South Africa and raised in New Norfolk after his family immigrated to Tasmania when he was 11 years old. Dr Peters studied a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1981.

Dr Peters started Bayfield Dental thirty years ago, initially as a sole practitioner and over the years has built it up into a multi-dentist practice. This success is based on the principle of considering the patient’s needs as paramount. Dr Peters offers a wealth of experience in a family orientated general dental practice. He has mentored and guided many graduate dentists over the years and finds this very rewarding. Dr Peters is supported by highly skilled, motivated dental assistants who complete the dental experience in a relaxed and professional atmosphere.

In his spare time, Dr Peters enjoys keeping fit at the gym, sharing good food and wine with his family and friends and experiencing firsthand different cultures and sights that overseas travel offers.

Dr Lourens Du Preez

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Dr Lourens Du Preez was born and raised in Durban, South Africa and studied at the University of Stellenbosch in the beautiful Western Cape Province. He graduated in 2003 and owned a practice in his home town until 2008.

Dr Du Preez and his wife Theresa immigrated to Australia in 2008. They lived and worked in several towns around the north and south of Tasmania and Far North Queensland before deciding to settle in Hobart in 2015.

Dr Du Preez has a post graduate diploma in orthodontics and Successfully complete the primary exams for the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons. He has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry and strives to provide his patients with only the best care possible.

Dr Du Preez has a gentle and caring approach and understands that every patient is unique with their own needs and requirements. He provides various treatment options for patients including sedation, ‘happy gas’ and general anaesthesia.

Dr Du Preez enjoys outdoor activities with his family, including cycling, swimming and long days on the beach. He likes a variety of water sports and is a keen surfer and kite surfer. Dr Du Preez loves watching rugby and has both a South African and Australian supporters’ jersey hanging in his closet.

Dr William Wurf

Dental Surgeon

Dr William Wurf grew up in Richmond, Tasmania and attended high school in Hobart. After deciding to pursue dentistry as a career he relocated to South Australia, completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Adelaide.

Dr Wurf was enthusiastic to return to Tasmania at the conclusion of his studies to work in the state he loves. He enjoys providing the highest quality care for patients across a broad range of disciplines including restorative, preventative and aesthetic dentistry and helping patients achieve the smile they desire.

In addition to continued professional development, Dr Wurf enjoys a game of tennis with friends and long walks on the beach.

Dr Britt Atkins

Britt joined the Bayfield Dental team in January 2018 after completing her Bachelor of Dental Science at Charles Sturt University in the New South Wales Central West.

Being born and raised a Tasmanian and educated locally at St Mary’s College, Britt decided to return home to Hobart to practice dentistry.

In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog Daphne, gardening and exploring the wonderful outdoor lifestyle that Tasmania has to offer.

Georgina Winstone

Dental Hygienist

Georgina was born and raised in Tasmania and moved to Adelaide to study Dental Hygiene. 

Georgina returned to Tasmania from 2003 and worked in Bellerive, then Hobart, before accepting a Dental Hygienist position in Switzerland. 

In 2005, Georgina moved to the Kanton of Zug, the German speaking part of Switzerland. She worked there for 7 years in Zug and Zurich. In her spare time, she loved to run and ride around the lakes and hills, she revelled in the stunning Swiss scenery and enjoyed travelling within Europe and beyond. 

Georgina’s daughter was born in Basel in 2013, and after a time living in England, they returned permanently to be with family in Tasmania. Georgina worked for over 7 years in Battery Point, before joining the team at Bayfield Dental City in 2023. 

Georgina enthusiastically and compassionately guides patients to improved oral health. She achieves this through thorough assessment, gentle care and empowering patients with tailored advice for home maintenance and prevention.

In her free time, Georgina enjoys keeping fit along the coastal trails, cloud and architectural photography and spending time with her daughter.
