Dr David Peters

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Dr David Peters was born in South Africa and raised in New Norfolk after his family immigrated to Tasmania when he was 11 years old. Dr Peters studied a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1981.


Dr Peters started Bayfield Dental thirty years ago, initially as a sole practitioner and over the years has built it up into a multi-dentist practice. This success is based on the principle of considering the patient’s needs as paramount. Dr Peters offers a wealth of experience in a family orientated general dental practice. He has mentored and guided many graduate dentists over the years and finds this very rewarding. Dr Peters is supported by highly skilled, motivated dental assistants who complete the dental experience in a relaxed and professional atmosphere.


In his spare time, Dr Peters enjoys keeping fit at the gym, sharing good food and wine with his family and friends and experiencing firsthand different cultures and sights that overseas travel offers.

Dr Lourens Du Preez

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Dr Lourens Du Preez was born and raised in Durban, South Africa and studied at the University of Stellenbosch in the beautiful Western Cape Province. He graduated in 2003 and owned a practice in his home town until 2008.


Dr Du Preez and his wife Theresa immigrated to Australia in 2008. They lived and worked in several towns around the north and south of Tasmania and Far North Queensland before deciding to settle in Hobart in 2015.


Dr Du Preez has a post graduate diploma in orthodontics and successfully complete the primary exams for the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons. He has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry and strives to provide his patients with only the best care possible.


Dr Du Preez has a gentle and caring approach and understands that every patient is unique with their own needs and requirements. He provides various treatment options for patients including sedation, ‘happy gas’ and general anaesthesia.


Dr Du Preez enjoys outdoor activities with his family, including cycling, swimming and long days on the beach. He likes a variety of water sports and is a keen surfer and kite surfer. Dr Du Preez loves watching rugby and has both a South African and Australian supporters’ jersey hanging in his closet.

Dr Lara Nurhadi

Dental Surgeon

Dr Lara Nurhadi was born and raised in Melbourne. She graduated from The University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery before moving to Hobart.



She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. In particular, Dr Nurhadi enjoys managing anxious patients and strives to provide gentle dental care in a friendly and nurturing environment. She has a particular interest in endodontics (root canal treatment). Dr Nurhadi regularly attends professional development courses to further her dental knowledge.


When she is not at work, Dr Nurhadi enjoys handicrafts, bushwalking, and spending time with family and friends. She really appreciates good food and loves to cook.

Dr Jessica Peters

Dental Surgeon

Dr Jessica Peters was born and raised in Tasmania. She completed her schooling in Hobart and went on to complete a psychology degree at the University of Tasmania. While Dr Peters enjoyed psychology, she decided on a change. This change saw her relocating to Queensland to study dentistry. Dr Peters completed a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science with first class honours and a Graduate Diploma of Dentistry at Griffith University.


Dr Peters always intended to return back to her home state to practice dentistry. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry including preventative dentistry, root canal treatment, crown and bridge work, veneers, and tooth whitening. In particular, she enjoys treating children and introducing them to good oral health habits. Dr Peters aims to provide a fun dental environment in which children can be introduced to dentistry.


Dr Jessica Peters is a compassionate and caring dentist who aims to create an environment in which the patient feels at ease. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and playing hockey.

Dr William Wurf

Dental Surgeon

Dr William Wurf grew up in Richmond, Tasmania and attended high school in Hobart. After deciding to pursue dentistry as a career he relocated to South Australia, completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Adelaide.

 

Dr Wurf was enthusiastic to return to Tasmania at the conclusion of his studies to work in the state he loves. He enjoys providing the highest quality care for patients across a broad range of disciplines including restorative, preventative and aesthetic dentistry and helping patients achieve the smile they desire.

 

In addition to continued professional development, Dr Wurf enjoys a game of tennis with friends and long walks on the beach.

Dr Britt Atkins

Britt joined the Bayfield Dental team in January 2018 after completing her Bachelor of Dental Science at Charles Sturt University in the New South Wales Central West.

 

Being born and raised a Tasmanian and educated locally at St Mary’s College, Britt decided to return home to Hobart to practice dentistry.

 

In her free time, she enjoys walking her dog Daphne, gardening and exploring the wonderful outdoor lifestyle that Tasmania has to offer.

Mrs Liz Smith

Dental Therapist

Dip Dental Therapy (Adel)

Liz Smith was born and raised in Tasmania. She first graduated as a Dental Therapist in 1989 from the School of Dental Therapy, New Town, Tasmania, and then furthered her qualifications with a Diploma in Dental Therapy from the University of Adelaide in 1996.


Liz worked with the School Dental Service Tasmania for 12 years and travelled state-wide including servicing the East Coast, Launceston, and Hobart. After having a short break while having three children, she started working at Bayfield Dental in 1999.


Liz is qualified to treat children as young as 12 months and up to 18 years of age. Liz works as part of a team, consulting with the dentists at Bayfield Dental and the visiting specialists as required.


Liz provides the ideal environment for a child's first dental experience in a non-threatening way. She focuses on preventative treatment including dietary counselling, oral hygiene education, decay risk analysis, fissure sealants and fluoride treatment, custom made mouthguards and orthodontic referrals. Liz provides dental treatment in a caring and gentle manner.


Out of work Liz enjoys, keeping fit, gardening, and catching up with family and friends. Liz is a keen supporter and active member of the Hockey Community in Hobart.
