Dr Adrian Birkett

Dr Birkett moved to Australia in 2002, following a career in the Royal Air Force. During his time with the Air force he provided dental care to service personnel and their families in the UK and abroad. Dr Birkett was also involved in vocational training for new dental graduates.

Dr Birkett initially worked at The Public Dental Clinic in New Town, then he entered private practice working alongside Dr Jeff Mount at Hobart Dental for many years.

In 2016 Dr Birkett joined Bayfield Dental at our city practice in Victoria Street. He is proficient in all areas of dentistry but has a keen interest in crowns, bridges, surgical and restorative procedures including implants.

Dr Birkett’s recreational pursuits mainly revolve around his two young sons extending to being coach of their soccer team.

Dr David Peters

Dr David Peters was born in South Africa and raised in New Norfolk after his family immigrated to Tasmania when he was 11 years old. Dr Peters studied a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1981. 

Dr Peters started Bayfield Dental thirty years ago, initially as a sole practitioner and over the years has built it up into a multi-dentist practice. This success is based on the principle of considering the patient’s needs as paramount. Dr Peters offers a wealth of experience in a family orientated general dental practice. He has mentored and guided many graduate dentists over the years and finds this very rewarding. Dr Peters is supported by highly skilled, motivated dental assistants who complete the dental experience in a relaxed and professional atmosphere.

In his spare time, Dr Peters enjoys keeping fit at the gym, sharing good food and wine with his family and friends and experiencing first hand different cultures and sights that overseas travel offers.

Dr Jessica Peters

Dr Jessica Peters was born and raised in Tasmania. She completed her schooling in Hobart and went on to complete a psychology degree at the University of Tasmania. While Dr Peters enjoyed psychology, she decided on a change. This change saw her relocating to Queensland to study dentistry. Dr Peters completed a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science with first class honours and a Graduate Diploma of Dentistry at Griffith University.

Dr Peters always intended to return back to her home state to practice dentistry. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry including preventative dentistry, root canal treatment, crown and bridge work, veneers, and tooth whitening. In particular, she enjoys treating children and introducing them to good oral health habits. Dr Peters aims to provide a fun dental environment in which children can be introduced to dentistry.

Dr Jessica Peters is a compassionate and caring dentist who aims to create an environment in which the patient feels at ease. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and playing hockey.

Dr Lourens Du Preez

Dr Lourens Du Preez was born and raised in Durban, South Africa and studied at the University of Stellenbosch in the beautiful Western Cape Province. He graduated in 2003 and owned a practice in his home town until 2008.

Dr Du Preez and his wife Theresa immigrated to Australia in 2008. They lived and worked in several towns around the north and south of Tasmania and Far North Queensland before deciding to settle in Hobart in 2015.

Dr Du Preez has a post graduate diploma in orthodontics and is currently undertaking a fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons. He has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry and strives to provide his patients with only the best care possible.

Dr Du Preez has a gentle and caring approach and understands that every patient is unique with their own needs and requirements. He provides various treatment options for patients including sedation, ‘happy gas’ and general anaesthesia.

Dr Du Preez enjoys outdoor activities with his family, including cycling, swimming and long days on the beach. He likes a variety of water sports and is a keen surfer and kite surfer. Dr Du Preez loves watching rugby and has both a South African and Australian supporters’ jersey hanging in his closet.

Dr William Wurf

Dr William Wurf grew up in Richmond, Tasmaina and attended high school in Hobart. After deciding to pursue dentistry as a career he relocated to South Australia, completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide.

Dr Wurf was enthusiastic to return to Tasmania at the conclusion of his studies to work in the state he loves. He enjoys providing highest quality care for patients across a broad range of disciplines including restorative, preventative and aesthetic dentistry and helping patients achieve the smile they desire.

In addition to continued professional development, Dr Wurf enjoys a game of tennis with friends and long walks on the beach.

Dr Gregory Tilley

Dr Tilley is a registered specialist Endodontist. He trained in Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Dr Tilley is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne where he is involved in the specialist training program. A past president of the Australian Dental Association (Victorian Branch), he has lectured extensively overseas and consults on an international committee for the development of endodontic instruments and materials.

Dr Tilley has been a visiting specialist to Bayfield Dental for over 10 years treating both our patients and patients from other practices in Hobart and around Tasmania. Dr Tilley was originally from Hobart and subsequently enjoys returning to his home state to catch up with friends and enjoy all that Tasmania has to offer.

When not at work, Dr Tilley enjoys overseas travel, cycling, cooking and enjoying fine food and wine with friends. His current major project is the development of a country home and garden in South Gippsland, Victoria.

Philip Zoldan

Dr Phillip Zoldan and his wife have recently relocated to Hobart from Sydney. Being in an environment that is focused on being with people who have time to be human, polite, kind and friendly is paramount to the Zoldans.

Dr Zoldan holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery University of Sydney, is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International, and has a Certificate of Qualification in the Educational Applications of Generative Learning and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

He was also Clinical Tutor at Westmead Clinical Dental School, Sydney as well as a Senior Lecturer and Senior Clinical Associate at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney since the late 1980’s.

In the early 1980s he pioneered conservative aesthetic dentistry in Australia and since 1982 has lectured in this field extensively within Australia and internationally, both at the undergraduate and post graduate levels, his emphasis being on treating teeth conservatively whilst achieving long term aesthetic and clinical success.

Internationally he has spoken at conferences in USA, Bali, Philippines and Hong Kong and has toured South Africa and New Zealand speaking to clinicians in various cities.

Within Australia at the post graduate level, he has lectured to dental groups and societies in all Australian states and at national and state conferences. At the undergraduate level, he has lectured at the dental schools in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, and has assisted the Dental Assistant’s Association in their training programme.

His clinical career centres around optimising patients’ complex care requirements and always providing help as though he is treating his loved ones.

Apart from his private practice and teaching commitments, Dr Zoldan was the ADA national spokesperson on aesthetic dentistry and served on numerous committees in various roles from Chair etc.

Currently he serves as a Councillor of ADA Tas. Branch as well as having served for18 years on ADA NSW Council,

He is renowned for his sense of humour, both in the confines of a treatment facility and privately, is a keen golfer and private pilot.

Mrs Liz Smith
DENTAL THERAPIST

Liz Smith was born and raised in Tasmania. She first graduated as a Dental Therapist in 1989 from the School of Dental Therapy, New Town, Tasmania, and then furthered her qualifications with a Diploma in Dental Therapy from the University of Adelaide in 1996.

Liz worked with the School Dental Service Tasmania for 12 years and travelled state-wide including servicing the East Coast, Launceston and Hobart. After having a short break while having three children, she started working at Bayfield Dental in 1999.

Liz is qualified to treat children as young as 12 months and up to 18 years of age. Liz works as part of a team, consulting with the dentists at Bayfield Dental and the visiting specialists as required.

Liz provides the ideal environment for a child's first dental experience in a non threatening way. She focuses on preventative treatment including; dietary counselling, oral hygiene education, decay risk analysis, fissure sealants and fluoride treatment, custom made mouth-guards and orthodontic referrals. Liz provides dental treatment in a caring and gentle manner.

Out of work Liz enjoys; keeping fit, gardening and catching up with family and friends. Liz is a keen supporter and active member of the Hockey Community in Hobart.
